Okay so you thought the Sumco letters were kick ass? Well apparently you didn't catch my picture of the day on August 11th. I was surprised no one said anything then. And I didn't bring it up on the main page because Sciarrino and I were trying to decide exactly what to do with our bounty. See what happened was I was stuck in traffic driving to see Michele and the baby and noticed this awesome light coming onto the old Anderson's Sporting Goods store. They had funky colored green scaffolding up and the facade and letters making up the sign was half gone revealing long hidden windows from an old apartment building. Pigeons were perched and it was the perfect photo op, unfortunately when it comes to choosing between new babies and photo ops, I pick the new baby. So I called up Sciarrino to see if she could get over there to snap the picture. Turns out she was on the same block as me and could actually see my car. We waved at each other and she headed over there. She was with Willamette's photographer, but he didn't see the picture I had envisioned. However Sciarrino did see something, the big blue letters. She went over and asked what they were doing with them. The guy was like, "uh, dumpster." So she got them to save them aside and later we went and picked the up. Some got trashed, like the first letter they took down, which, unfortunately for me, was the A. I still took it, but it's a little beat up. We stored them in my back yard for a bit and they made great photo props:
what goofs, but good sports, for the most part:
Awe poor Brent. hehehe. Then Sciarrino set about figuring out what they could spell, turns out you can spell this:
She cleaned those letters up for her new studio, but the studio doesn't have enough wall space. They are in the Ribbon Jar right now, but might go into storage because they are quite massive, and I do want to put the row of chairs there. Haven't decided. So what I'm getting to is that we still have some left over letters, and I am planning on getting back over to Sumco for some of those. We want to do some kind of swap, so that we can spell things we want, or get our initials, or maybe cool fabric, whatever. Would that be something you were interested in? I was thinking I could just put pictures up of the letters individually and take offers on each one. It will be a few weeks, I'm still unpacking my craft room and working on Ribbon Jar like crazy, but I wanted to get a feel for if this would be something you are all interested in. Let me know!
